Belfries

The belfry is a wooden structure designed to isolate the stony walls from the bells.

It's generally made of oak complex interlacing, and stand on stone edge exceeding internal walls of the tower. The structure of belfries are designed and calculated for every tower according the weight of bells, type of swing, the available space in the bell tower...

When bells ring, the material and the structure of the belfry, more indulgent absorb the vibrations. If bells were directly connected with the stone, their dangerous vibrations would weaken the walls which would eventually collapse.

Belfries are usually manufactured of oak, but can also be made of steel.
